ED medicines: sildenafil and tadalafil
These prescription medicines are not suitable for everyone. Tell your clinician about your complete medical history, allergies and all medicines you take.
Do not use with nitrates or riociguat.
Combining these medicines with nitrates (including nitroglycerin and recreational “poppers”) or riociguat can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Do not combine ED medicines or change your dose without explicit direction from your prescriber.
Discuss your health and other medicines.
Tell your clinician about heart disease, chest pain, blood-pressure problems, past stroke or heart attack, kidney or liver conditions, and eye or hearing problems. Some medicines interact with ED treatments. Sexual activity may be unsafe for some people with heart conditions.
Know when to seek urgent help.
Get urgent medical care for an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, sudden loss of vision or hearing, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction. If you develop chest pain during or after sex, get emergency help and tell the medical team which ED medicine you took and when. Do not self-treat with nitrates.
Possible side effects
Side effects can include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion and dizziness. Tadalafil can also cause back or muscle pain. Contact your clinician about persistent or bothersome symptoms.
Compounded treatments
Rocket Melts and the compounded chewable mints contain sildenafil and tadalafil. Compounded medicines are not FDA-approved and do not undergo FDA review for safety, effectiveness or quality. They should only be used following an assessment and prescription from a licensed clinician.
